The Romance languages are a branch of the Indo-European language family that comprises all the languages that descend from Latin, the language of the Roman. The most spoken Romance languages are Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian.

Spanish
This is one of the official languages of Spain, most Latin American countries and Equatorial Guinea. In total, 21 nations use Spanish as their primary language and it is also one of six official languages of the United Nations. Spanish is spoken by over 400 million people natively, making it the most spoken Romance language. Spanish is considered to be one of the closest resembling Latin in terms of the verb conjugation system.
Portuguese
During the 15th and 16th centuries Portugal established a colonial and commercial empire. At that time, many Creole languages based on Portuguese also appeared around the world, especially in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. Today it is one of the world's major languages with over 200 million native speakers. Portuguese is the official language of nine countries. It has been called "the sweet language".
French
Is a Romance language originally spoken in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland, and today by about 300 million people around the world as either a native or a second language, with significant populations in 54 countries. It is an official language in 29 countries, which form is called "The Community of French-speaking Nations". French is an official language of all United Nations agencies and a large number of international organisations.
Italian
Is spoken by more than 60 million people, primarily in Italy, Switzerland, San Marino and Vatican City. Unlike most other Romance languages, Italian has retained the contrast between short and long consonants which existed in Latin. Of the Romance languages, Italian is considered to be one of the closest resembling latin in terms of vocabulary.
